Road Trip - Day 13 & 14 - CO to GA

On day 13 we got up bright and early to head home and guess what? Yes, that's right, the camper would not close all the way due to the multi-use tool stuck in the track. Fortunately, we were able to borrow a hammer and pried the bottom of the track open to get the tool from there. And what about the rock, well it's still in the track. Apparently, it wasn't a problem after all.

Ely was sad and crying all morning and as we drove away continued to cry. It wasn't that our trip was over it was that he didn't want to leave the Rockies. He tried to convince us to stay or to move there or at least to visit once every three months. As we drove through Denver we turned away from the mountains and as soon as we could no longer see them he started crying again. And then he said , "It always ends bad in a city because cities take over the Earth's beauty. And the smoke and the gas destroy Mother Earth."

We drove all day and made it almost all of the way through Kansas. Then we spent the night in a real bed and had a real shower for the first time in two weeks. I actually couldn't sleep well because the bed was too soft.

The next morning as we were driving past Kansas City, the highway was closed and we had to detour. As we drove around I thought the area looked like what I remembered from childhood visits to my paternal grandmother and great-grandmother. So I called my dad and got the addresses. We were very close.

My grandmother's house.

My great-grandmother's house.

From there, we kept going and after a leisurely dinner in Nashville, arrived home at 1:30 a.m. It was an amazing trip.
