Road Trip - Day 4 - Santa Fe

Day four started with us packing up and putting down the camper, not because we were leaving but because we had to drive it to a repair shop to have the propane line fixed. Propane is kind of essential when you are planning to cook all of your meals.

After we dropped off the camper, we headed to El Rancho de las Golondrinas, a living history museum at a rancho that was once an important stop on the Camino Real (road from Mexico to Santa Fe). Several years ago, we read about ranch life and the Camino Real in the Josefina American Girl books, so we were excited to see this rancho. We had a picnic lunch on the grounds and then walked around to the original ranch building and other period buildings. There were guides dressed in period costumes who answered questions along the way.

This room was inspiration for one of the illustrations in the Josefina books.



Finn was really interested in this acequia (irrigation ditch).

The guide in the one room school house asked the kids what they thought it would be like to go to school in the same room as their siblings. Turns out it's not that hard for them to imagine.

Ely used his own money to buy Eryn a mini Josefina doll from the gift shop and surprised her with it when we got back to the campground.
